Zuko and Katara just click. There's something about them that pulls you in, leaving you hungry, but delightfully so. It's alluring. It's challenging. It's mysterious, it's forbidden, it's...beautifully disastrous. You say that if Zutara would happen, ATLA would turn into a soap opera. Well, if Katang happened, the show would be too sweet. Too unreal. The hero and the heroine falling in love in the end is just not...appealing. Sure it's adorable, and in some cases (like in other shows or in video games) it works, but honestly. If THEY got together it would totally exceed "Soap Opera."
Katang isn't strong enough. Too much silk. It's pretty and soft but it's just too delicate. You can't take any chances with it.
And I know what you other shippers are thinking. ‘How is Zutara any better?’ That’s just the thing. Zutara isn’t any better. No. It’s the opposite of better. It’s a fractured, shattered love. It bleeds. But that’s what makes it so real, because nothing is perfect.
Broken. But at the same time...unbreakable. It’s imperfection is what makes it strong. It takes all these hits then rises with a shimmering hope that refuses to die. Zuko and Katara contradict everything they were taught to believe...and accept what it is they are meant to believe. What is that you ask? It’s that every soul is meant to exist in peace. The elements existed peacefully once. They can sure as hell do it again.
People keep saying Zuko and Katara have nothing in common. That is a lie and you know it. They both have something they’re fighting for, they both know what it’s like to loose something precious to them. They know what it’s like to be looked down upon because of who you are. They never give up. They’re both hot headed (this, of course, applies to Zuko more than it does Katara). They both rise to the challenge when underestimated.. They love passionately. They’re fierce. They are compassionate. You can’t keep them down. There are so many things that connect them.
Another thing I’d like to bring up is how people perceive Zuko. A lot people say that he’s some horny, abusive teenager. I find that highly offensive. Zuko is not horny and he is most definitely not abusive. He is hot headed, that’s for sure, and he’s most definitely angsty. But he is an honorable man (yes, I said man). His is righteous. He would never hurt a woman unless he had to.
This, my friends, leads me to your theories about Zuko’s actions while he’s around Katara. In the Waterbending Scroll, I would like to point out that Zuko was surprisingly gentle with Katara. But that’s not necessarily because he likes her. Like I said before, he is honorable. Not only that, but Zuko is extremely compassionate. Katara’s necklace obviously meant a lot to her. Zuko saw that. He saw that it was more than just some fashion statement. He could probably tell it held a very special place in her heart. That’s probably the only reason why he didn’t destroy it. He knows what it’s like to loose something precious to you, as I said before. He understood, and he was merciful.
He understood her.
Now, in the Finale (I forget the episode’s name), they dueled. Which was very KICK-ASS, by the way. xD But I honestly think Zuko could’ve done WAAAAAY more damage to Katara and vise-versa. Why? Because they don’t want to cause one another pain. Why? Because they’ve been through so much of it themselves, inflicting it on others wouldn’t be right. Or honorable. But, if Zuko threatens to ruin everything the Avatar’s group has worked for, Katara will get serious. Because she is extremely faithful. Zuko, on the other hand, might not. Right now, he’s confused about what he believes in, and his faith is wavering. He’s reconsidering the truth, and he’s wondering ‘Is this honorable?’
Fire and water. One cannot exist without the other, for all life would perish if even only one was gone. The sun and the moon are two completely different planets, yet they share the same light. Zuko and Katara are opposites, yes, but not completely. Imperfect, yet strong. Broken yet whole. Bleeding yet alive with hope that is indestructible.
Zutara is not better. It’s not perfect. It just is, and frankly, that's just right.

Amen!!
Seriously you should send this to the creators of Avatar. That'll make them make Zutara happen on the show.
:)
Wow! Good point of view. I think you're right ;)
